Cushioned Cylinder
Cushioned hydraulic cylinders are used in high-speed or heavy-load applications where controlled deceleration is essential. They prevent a jarring, sudden stop of the piston, which protects the cylinder and surrounding machinery from damage, reduces noise and vibration, and extends equipment life. They are common in material handling systems, manufacturing automation, construction equipment like loaders, and vehicle lifts in the automotive industry.
Product Specification
Cushioned cylinders are built with an internal mechanism at the end of the stroke to slow the piston’s speed before it hits the end cap. This cushioning effect is achieved by restricting the flow of hydraulic fluid. There are two main types: fixed and adjustable cushioning. Fixed cushioning is non-adjustable and provides a preset level of deceleration, making it cost-effective for applications with consistent loads and speeds. Adjustable cushioning, on the other hand, includes a needle valve that allows users to fine-tune the damping effect to match specific operational requirements, making it ideal for varying loads or applications requiring precise control. The cushioning mechanism often employs a spear or tapered plunger that enters a chamber, progressively reducing the fluid outflow. A check valve is also included, which allows unrestricted fluid flow when the piston moves in the opposite direction, preventing cushioning on the return stroke. This smooth deceleration and shock absorption are critical for protecting seals, bearings, and other components from wear, leading to lower maintenance and a safer working environment.
