Brake Cylinders
Brake cylinders are critical hydraulic components found in vehicles and machinery that utilize hydraulic braking systems.
There are two main types: master cylinders and wheel cylinders. The master cylinder converts the mechanical force from the brake pedal into hydraulic pressure. This pressure is then transmitted through brake lines to the wheel cylinders or brake calipers, which ultimately cause the vehicle to slow down or stop. They are essential for safety and reliability in all hydraulically-braked vehicles, from cars and trucks to industrial equipment.
Product Specification
Brake cylinders are designed with specific features to perform their critical role safely and reliably.
The master cylinder, for instance, typically has a dual-circuit design with two separate pistons and fluid reservoirs. This crucial safety feature ensures that if one hydraulic circuit fails, the other can still provide braking power.
Modern master cylinders are constructed from lightweight, corrosion-resistant materials like aluminum and often have an integral reservoir on top for easy fluid level inspection. Seals and gaskets are vital components within the master cylinder, preventing leaks and maintaining hydraulic pressure. Wheel cylinders, used in drum brake systems, typically consist of a cast iron or aluminum bore with two pistons that push the brake shoes outwards when pressurized. Each piston is equipped with rubber seals and boots to prevent brake fluid leaks and keep out contaminants like dust and moisture. A spring between the pistons holds them and their seals in position. Bleeder screws are also included on wheel cylinders to allow for the removal of air from the hydraulic system during maintenance. T
